Here is a short Whale Rally Report from VOG members Douglas Defty and son Travis, An impromptu visit of father and son at the Plettenberg Bay rally ground. Here is Doug's personal report!
On Tuesday 01 June 2010 I got the bright idea... "let me attend the Whale Rally in Plettenberg Bay this weekend." The cell members were unable to attend (my late bright idea) due to prior commitments and the only family member able (albeit always willing to) was Travis, my 11 year old son. He claimed he was SURE he could get away early from school on Friday. Upon me asking him what the program was for his day, it turned out that he was to write 2 exams but "he would speak to his teacher . . . ." NOT! Anyway, we left Cape Town at 13h30 after exams were written and I had forced him to eat. This was his FIRST rally and we traveling the 540km there by bike. Our ride took us via Route 62 to Oudtshoorn and then down to the N2. It was dark by the time we reached Outdshoorn - won't do those passes at night in a hurry again. Fed ourselves and awaited the morning's activities. The rally never stops. But I must commend the Ulysses on their fine organizing and friendliness. Well done guys! You made the folk feel welcome. The VOG colours were proudly displayed! The catering come stall area was clearly demarcated. No bikes permitted inside (besides the one as the prize). Clubs camping in groups in a very neat caravan park. Ablutions were clean and plenty of grub and goodies available. The mass ride was at 10h00 and concourse at 14h00. We even came across a bicycle that has a 48cc motor fitted. Available as a kit from 2 guys in Plett. Decided to leave before the evening party - my son had seen what he needed and has already proposed we return next year. Here are some pics . . Father Doug and son Travis arrive safely at the rally ground and suitably attired, are ready to take us thru the event! . . . a quiet and orderly rally . . . . . . . . what else at a rally but a perfect doughnut . . . . . . . . every shape, size, configuration. . . . it's a Rally . . . . . . . . . help my trap . . . . . . . a well presented VOG man . . . . . and VOG is thus represented proudly and perfectly . . Ride safe,
Blessings Doug
