Organisers: Pretoria Area Cell Orginator: Member Manny Da Silva Mass ride collection point: Centurion Area Cell Road Captain mass Ride: Derek Meise ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cars in the Park is an annual event where VOG displays motorcycles for the benefit of the general, mostlly non-biking fraternity. It is an occasion where members can contribute to marketing VOG, whilst enjoying 3 or 4 hours of interesting time spent amongst vintage and classic cars, snacking at the many stalls and enjoying good company. Today, 1st August 2010 was no different in terms of venue and agenda, except better than last year as the weather played the game with a beautiful sunny day, comfortable ambient temperatures and a slight breeze to keep the heat in check. Dave & Kia arrived on site at 06h30 and had the stand up in no time, then settled down, patiently awaiting the arrival of the VOG en masse ride of all Area Cells from Centurion Gate and thus had occasion to see the grounds fill up rapidly. First thngs first . . . . . Our gratitude to each and every member who came along and added weight to this day, a VOG Support event where organiser (Pretoria Old Motor Club) proceeds go to charity. We had 51 bikes on our stand . . . . by far the largest collection on show. There were two "bike-outs" on the day, one in the mass ride (Corrie had a fuel problem to sort but was able to ride his bike after a little rerouting of a fuel-line) and the other a problem not yet sorted. (Mike Nienaber had to collect one of his bikes left standing alongside the highway) Another incident that needs mentioning is that of member Mike Swanepoel, who in heavy traffic had stopped, waiting for the moment he could safely pull away, when a car pushed past ridng over his extended right foot!! Luckily no broken bones, but just shows how little some motorists respect bikers! . . . the stand is up and ready as the sun rises to a beautiful day . . . .
. . . . by 09h30 we reportedly had 51 Big Vee's member machines on the stand . . . .pic taken looking north . . . . . . . facing south another pic of the site from the other end . . .showing the gazebo engulfed by Big Vee machines . . . . . . this news item and others reported ambiguously to hide our identity in this report . . . you be the judge on this cutting sent in by member Koenraad Stoltz. Thanks brother . . . The attendance register in part as not everyone got around to signing-in! For Members Neville & Cheryl Wiggill . . . . . Morning Dave, Kia, SCM s and fellow VOG ers Firstly Thank you for the professional organizing and well marshaled ride from the R21 meet venue (East Rand) through to Pretoria /Centurion for the final group meet before riding on to our destination Cars in the park. The ride was extremely well marshaled and the SCM s had their hands full with the huge amount of traffic volumes on the road, but in true VOG fashion and with the most well rehearsed manning of intersections we were guided through the traffic as if on a red carpet. Secondly the fantastic support/turn out for the event which was obvious as the VOG colors were everywhere, and as normal the obvious family orientation and comrade of the members was evident. Lastly Dave to all the back of stage organization which took place even erecting the stand at 6.30 in the morning was a mission I am sure, we had the opportunity to stroll around the park with our gear safely packed away in the VOG chuck wagon, being free of all the gear was great, so thanks for this kind gesture. I am sure I speak for many a member when I say huge Thanks for a great day and a very proud turnout All the best Neville & Cheryl VO 180 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
