AB's Meander

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - Wow! What a Ride!”

The words of Hunter S. Thompson, The Proud Highway:

Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman, 1955-1967.

Back in August 2015 - when Andre Badenhorst – resident of Carletonville, felt that old itch in his throttle thumb and tingling in his saddle – he got hold of his new-found buddy VOG Dog and set his sights on VOG’s KZN Meander Challenge.

For VOG Dog, it was a chance to feel the wind in his floppy ears and sunshine on his cheeks - ever grateful to Mr B. for the privilege of sharing the open road!

Andre's story unfolds as follows:

"It was to be a whirlwind tour, yet paced slowly enough to do what we do best on two wheels – take in the sights, smells and sounds of our beautiful country.

VOG DOG provided continuous and unasked for "advice" on what I had to do to make his ride more comfortable!

True to VOG DOG character - he responded in his normal patronising voice:

Mr B. - life offers certain privileges on a silver platter. Yours right now is the chance for me to accompany you on your excursion. Need I say that I passed up a potential trip to the Canine Film Festival (was called the Cannes in years gone by....). You'll see - I do make a good pillion - and needless to say, I am a BABE MAGNET! Just ask my buddy REX, who gets it right all the time!

Enjoy the philosophical and thought provoking collection of memories that follow:
